Dior took over Venice Beach, California for its Resort 2023 collection aptly titled “California Couture.” Comprised of relaxed suiting and red carpet-ready hoodies, the collection perfectly encompassed Southern California’s unique approach to high/low dressing. Select items were created in collaboration with ERL, an outerwear-driven label most known for infusing a West Coast aesthetic into topstitched puffers and ski-inspired gear.
Whether intentional or not, the offering presented a bevy of gender neutral trends and if Kim Jones‘ resume is any indication, we expect to see the collection’s influence across the streetwear landscape.
The collection masterfully encompassed Angelenos’ approach to black tie, offering a baggier cut that makes the streamlined silhouettes on the red carpet feel restrictive and dated. Dior’s suits came drenched in of-the-moment pastels and all the bravado of Diddy’s shiny suit era.
